The Kangning Quarter
"White walls, blue domes, a lamp at every door — six small houses keeping one family well."
The Kangning Gate was never one room. It was always a small white town by the sea — a research hall at one end, an observatory of the body at the other, and between them the kitchen, the apothecary, the rescue station, and the seasonal almanac. The weather changes; the tide comes in and goes out; the lamps stay on for the family who needs them.
"The lamps stay on for the family who needs them."
This volume is a sketch, not a verdict. Six buildings of one Quarter; more rooms are still being walked. Sun changes to rain, summer to winter — but the lamps stay on, because somebody might need to come in.
